Online Video Industry Forecast 2012: Qumu

The future of business video depends on video being consumed anytime, anywhere.

This year Qumu conducted a series of surveys through Harris Interactive. Findings provided validation for the industry and a bit of entertainment. When it comes to watching videos at
work, Americans named watching a topic expert as their first choice (40%) followed by someone at their workplace (38%)...their CEO being the top choice. Not a surprise; Employees want to see videos of their CEO on a regular basis.

More surprising were the results showing that 50% of Americans would consider taking a secret video at work using their smartphone. The number one video Americans might find funny or interesting if posted is of someone pulling a prank on a co-worker (30%). A validation for approval cycles in Employee Generated Content initiatives!

Whether it‘s for CEO outreach, corporate communications, product launches, or training, video communications has become mission critical. If the video system goes down, it's a priority one alert for IT. We expect to see greater focus on the industrial strength and failover capabilities of video platforms. This has always been a focus area for Qumu so we're happy to see customers putting more emphasis on its importance. We're also expecting more impact from the Consumerization of IT as our Mobile SDK has been a key driver this year. Employees are continuing to bring mobile devices to work and expecting to be able to view videos on these devices and we see this trend increasing in 2012.
