Hulu Launches Hulu Plus

Article Featured Image

Hulu has finally launched its Hulu Plus service, which has been in "preview" until now. The surprise is that the price was dropped to $7.99 per month, versus the $9.99 preview price. This keep the service competitive with Netflix, which offers an all-you-can-stream plan plus one DVD at a time for $8.99 in the United States.

Hulu Plus specializes in full current seasons of popular shows, including Glee, Modern Family, The Office, House, 30 Rock, and Grey's Anatomy. The service is owned by NBC Universal, Fox, and ABC, and it features content from those networks, among others.

Subscribers can access Hulu Plus through the Hulu site, on Roku devices, and on PlayStation 3 consoles. Hulu has plans to expand to Internet-connected devices from Vizio, LG, and Panasonic. It will also come to TiVo Premiere DVRs, the Xbox 360, and Western Digital devices. This launch gives Roku a competitive advantage over the Apple TV, which doesn't support Hulu Plus.

Viewers can watch past seasons of shows such as Monk, Psych, and Battlestar Galactica. Additionally, Hulu Plus will include every episode from all 36 seasons of Saturday Night Live-even the terrible Milton Berle episode that was banned from rebroadcast for over 20 years.

New subscribers can try the Hulu Plus service free for one week. Current subscribers get two free weeks, and can invite their friends to try the service for two weeks. Also, people who buy a Sony Bravia connected television by January 31, 2011, can get 11 weeks of service free, and those who buy a Roku device by December 15, 2010, can get one month free.
