Jilion Commercializes Cloud-based HTML5 Video Player Service
The SublimeVideo Player was created in 2010 to show off Jilion's HTML5 abilities, but it's gained such a strong following that it's now available as a commercial product. Jilion is billing it as the word's first cloud-based HTML5 video player service.
Jilion is a software-focused Swiss startup. As one of the team members writes on the company blog, "We began developing an ambitious cloud-based service, allowing our customers to ensure that their video will always play flawlessly on a huge variety of browsers and mobile devices, without any extra work from them, ever."
Since the SublimeVideo Player is cloud-based, users automatically get the latest and most compatible version.
Developers interested in testing the player can get a free unlimited test plan. Paid pricing starts at $9.90 per month, which is good for 3,000 page views. All four of the pricing levels include the same features-including standard support and SSL access-and vary only by how many page views per month they offer.
All plans also include peak insurance, which lets content owners exceed their pageview limits for a certain number of days each month, so they aren't penalized for traffic bursts.
"We knew the player was sleek and functional, but we wanted to push the envelope much further to be able to deliver our customers with all the benefits of HTML5, without any of the associated complexity." says Mehdi Aminian, Jilion's co-founder.
