Sorenson Media Delivers First URL Shortener for Pro Video
Sorenson Media will formally release Sorenson Squeeze Server, a cloud-based, enterprise encoding product, in November. When it arrives, it will have a little something extra, in the form of a URL shortening service.
The service is called Vid.vu, and it will squeeze URLs down to under 14 characters. It's also the first professional URL shortening service, and offers protection from malware or phishing scams.
By using a built-in service, Sorenson customers will get access to analytics information, including the number of click-throughs and viewer location, regardless of where the video is viewed—on the publisher's own site or someplace it's been officially syndicated to or ended up virally.
The Vid.vu service integrates with the user's video workflow. It not only shortens, but can include a keyword of the user's choosing into the URL.
"There are many URL shorteners available out there, but none that are created specifically for professional, enterprise video needs," said Eric Quanstrom, Sorenson Media's COO. "Vid.vu not only provides automatically shorter URLs to video permalink pages—which are typically excessively long—it also has built-in protection against malware, phishing scams, and spam."
