Encoding.com Secures $2M in Funding
Cloud-based encoding and transcoding provider Encoding.com announced that it has secured an additional $2 million in funding. This funding is from existing investors and was led by Metamorphic Ventures, a New York City-based venture capital fund.
Other investors joining in included Patrick Condon (the co-founder of Rackspace), John Engates (the CTO of Rackspace), and Dave Morgan (the CEO of Simulmedia).
The company announced that it will use the new funding to support a rapid expansion in the scale of Encoding.com's operations, a necessity for its growing customer base. Encoding.com now counts 1,700 customers. It recently launched Vid.ly, a free hosting and encoding solution that provides users with a universal player, and says that that service's acceptance has been "explosive."
"It's an exciting time for Encoding.com," says Jeff Malkin, president of Encoding.com. "We continue to execute well on our mission to be the shovel in the broadband video gold rush. We're experiencing an accelerating demand for our encoding services from large and small companies who recognize the proven value of cloud-based video encoding services versus managing expensive and inflexible on-premises solutions.
"This funding will help us continue to lead innovation in the video encoding services space, while enabling us to scale our customer acquisition efforts across big media and entertainment, agencies, online education, video platforms, and video application developers worldwide," he notes.
At the recent NAB show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Encoding.com announced Instant Encoding, which allows it to begin encoding files while they're still uploading.
