RioPort Appoints Starlight Founder James E. Long as President and CEO
RioPort (http://www.rioport.com) announced the appointment of James E. Long as President and Chief Executive Officer effective today.
It also named Mark Thompson as Chairman of the Board.
"RioPort has incredible assets in its management team, its technical expertise, products, services, investors and business partnerships that I am sure will keep it a leader in the digital media market," said Long.
Long comes from the high technology industry—he founded pioneering streaming company Starlight Networks in 1991. Videoconferencing company PictureTel acquired Starlight 1998.
"Just as his work in streaming video and graphics truly progressed the PC industry, we believe that Jim will be a driving force in creating solutions that will address the ease-of-use issues for the consumer and transform digital media into a viable mass market opportunity," said J.D. Heilprin, executive vice president and general manager of RioPort.
Also Mark Thompson was appointed to RioPort's Board of Directors as Chairman. Other members include Jim Long, President and CEO; Ken Potashner, Chairman, President and CEO of S3; Nicholas Butterworth, President and CEO of MTVi Group; William Schroeder, President and CEO of Holontech; Fred Harman, Oak Investment Partners; and Matt Pillar, Vulcan Ventures.
Thompson has an e-business background experience. He is Chairman of Integration.com, and was previous senior vice president and executive producer of online brokerage firm, Schwab.com.
