Encoding.com, the world's largest video encoding service, announced that LA public radio station KCRW 89.9FM, an NPR affiliate, has integrated its Vid.ly platform to power video for KCRW's Music Mine iPad application. Vid.ly is the first universal video URL platform and radically simplifies the preparation and delivery of video to all mobile devices and browsers, thus solving the biggest challenge facing video content publishers and application developers who want their videos to work for everyone. KCRW is leveraging Vid.ly to manage the heavy lifting of transcoding, device detection and delivery for the music artists' full-performance videos that are included within the Music Mine application.
"With the KCRW Music Mine, we've taken a different approach to music on the iPad, offering listeners a new mode of discovery consisting of a human-curated experience, along with artist videos, photos, blog posts and more," said KCRW's Director of New Media, Anil Dewan. "Encoding.com's Vid.ly manages the HTML5 video for the iPad simply and seamlessly, allowing us to focus on the overall fan experience."
"The KCRW team has created a fun, creative and very entertaining experience on the iPad for music discovery," said Jeff Malkin, President of Encoding.com. "As an iconic brand with such a rich history of launching music artists, we're thrilled to support KCRW's efforts to expose great talent to users on mobile devices."
Leveraging Encoding.com's Vid.ly service for HTML5-based, full-performance videos on KCRW's new iPad app ensures that all the complexities of serving online video - including transcoding, device/browser detection, streaming, and hosting - are managed efficiently, and that videos display properly on the iPad.
Music Mine was developed by Public Radio Exchange (PRX) and designed in collaboration with Roundarch, using The Echo Nest powerful music intelligence platform.
