Austin, TX(16 Apr 2012)

NewCinema.com, a leader in live and on-demand video compression systems, today announced the introduction of a new generation of hyper-efficient live HD encoding software that enables Internet Protocol (IP) video to act more like broadcast video. The software, called CogoHD, enables broadcast, cable, or Internet video delivery networks to save up to 75% of their traditional bandwidth costs for the delivery of HD video in live scenarios.

NewCinema.com will demonstrate CogoHD, which is currently in beta, at the Intel booth #SL12810 in the lower level of the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center at NAB 2012, from Monday, April 16 to Thursday, April 19.

The CogoHD codec is an H.264 variant that can perform two times real-time encodes with a limited buffer while reducing the bit-rate and preserving image quality for HD content across multiple networks simultaneously. NewCinema.com has performed private trials of IP video delivery with networks that seek high-performance solutions over existing infrastructure to reduce bandwidth overhead, while increasing channel capacity for subscribers.

“The codec innovation battles have begun anew; networks are demanding more from their existing implementation of HD hardware, and there are opportunities for further optimization. We have streamed CogoHD at 1.5 megabits per second (Mb/s) with 720p high-definition video content, live, and demonstrated sufficient efficiency of the codec for programming that would enable another four to five streams to be carried on the same pipe,” said Harry Friedman, COO of NewCinema.com. “The networks are still seeking even greater encoder quality levels for an increasing array of multi-platform content packages. We are pleased with our initial trials and look forward to further integration with major operators and networks.”

NewCinema.com, founded in 2008, originally sought to deliver high-bandwidth content – including 2K and 4K specialty video – to consumer home theater subscribers as an IP video play. The progressive download challenges associated with efficient delivery of HD and high-resolution format video led to the development of the CogoHD software, to accelerate live IP video delivery.
