Quickplay and Alcatel-Lucent Join Forces to Deliver Next Generation TV Services

Quickplay has announced a strategic partnership with Alcatel-Lucent to enable PAY TV operators to evolve their legacy IPTV platforms to the next generation of TV services.

Quickplay, the global expert in powering premium video to any device, today announced it is working with Alcatel-Lucent to enable PAY TV operators to evolve their legacy IPTV platforms to the next generation of TV services. The combination enables the most engaging user experience across all screens – in the home and on the go – leveraging both managed and unmanaged networks with a graceful evolution from existing platforms and CPE. Alcatel-Lucent and Quickplay at IBC will present a demonstration based on a proof-of-concept deployed for a major IPTV provider.

The collaboration combines Alcatel Lucent’s Cloud DVR and Velocix Content Delivery Network (CDN) with Quickplay’s extensive virtual head-end and 24/7 managed service model.  The alliance provides a migration pathway from capital-intensive legacy PAY TV middleware to a modular, multi-vendor approach that gives service providers an option to bypass vendor lock in and rapidly innovate to meet market demands. Service providers will be able to deliver a comprehensive and customized solution for managed and unmanaged video distribution and consumption that differentiates their business and manages demand of multi-screen IP video networks, while having greater scale, efficiency, and agility in delivering the best in premium viewing experiences.

- Quickplay’s extensive virtual head end and 24/7 managed service model, delivers secure streaming of nearly 700 live channels and hundreds of thousands of hours of encoded VOD content. Quickplay handles all of the adaptive streaming and content management, including DRM solutions like Microsoft® PlayReady®, user entitlements, dynamic advertising insertion, banner ad support, multi-language support, and featured content from over 200 premium content providers. Quickplay has also embedded the Velocix CDN and Cloud DVR into its Managed Video Platform Service as an offering for its service provider and content programmer clients around the world.

- Both Alcatel-Lucent and Quickplay will provide a modular independent approach that integrates to third-party component suppliers to meet the unique needs of every project and enable a smooth transition to next generation platforms.  

- Alcatel-Lucent’s Cloud DVR solution allows content to be stored in the network, removing cost and complexity from the home, and enables access to time-shifted TV services anytime, anywhere, and from any device. The solution capitalizes on virtualization and community-driven applications and innovations to provide scalable, reliable and cost effective cloud-based storage.

- Alcatel-Lucent’s Velocix CDN enables service providers to improve the video experience for their customers while optimizing their delivery infrastructure. Designed for network operators, it is optimized for video delivery and leverages the network’s intelligence to deliver enhanced service personalization, scale and efficiency. It helps service providers launch a new wave of premium content services with a short time to revenue.
