Markham, Ontario and San Bruno, California(10 May 2010)
Digital Rapids -- the leading provider of tools and solutions for bringing television, film and Web content to wider audiences -- and Qumu, a proven innovator in rich media and video solutions for the enterprise, today announced that direct support for Digital Rapids' acclaimed encoding and streaming systems has been integrated into the new version 5.3 of the Qumu Video Control Center.
The Qumu Video Control Center (VCC) provides webcast producers with centralized management and control for all video applications, content and resources involved in the production lifecycle and delivery of enterprise video. IT organizations rely upon VCC to automate and streamline the production processes for live webcasts and video-on-demand creation through integration of encoders, streaming servers and content delivery networks, affording scale, reliability and return on their video assets.
Digital Rapids' encoding solutions provide scalable, top-quality encoding for both on-demand and live streaming applications. Advanced video processing technology enables superior visual quality and the most efficient use of bandwidth in the compressed output. Digital Rapids' flexible, multi-format encoders seamlessly support distribution to a broad range of viewing platforms and devices with simultaneous encoding to multiple output resolutions, bit rates and formats.
The new integration enables control and management of Digital Rapids encoders directly from within the Video Control Center's intuitive portal interface. VCC can now schedule Digital Rapids encoders for live broadcasts, ensuring availability during important events like CEO broadcasts and project management meetings. Through the VCC, producers can control the operation of the encoder, providing a highly available, scalable solution to ensure utmost uptime of important live events. Qumu's live broadcast console will monitor the status of the Digital Rapids encoder stream, allowing webcasters and operations staff full knowledge of the performance of the encoded event. Full failover and redundancy is also supported with the release. Client side playlists will automatically pull a redundant stream from a backup Digital Rapids encoder should a stream be interrupted for any reason, providing the level of reliability and assurance that is mandatory for webcast professionals producing events like live CEO webcasts to tens of thousands of employees.
VCC 5.3 automatically will pull encoded archive files upon completion of the recorded streams, and will make them available for publishing for on-demand viewing. Control of the encoder can also be initiated automatically by the VCC to start and stop recording, eliminating multiple production steps typical in enterprises today.
Digital Rapids solutions supported by Qumu Video Control Center 5.3 include StreamZ and StreamZHD rack-mount live and on-demand encoding systems, as well as DRC-Stream board-and-software bundles. StreamZ and StreamZHD are the industry's most versatile encoding platforms, delivering multi-format video ingest, encoding, transcoding and live streaming in powerful turnkey configurations. DRC-Stream bundles combine Digital Rapids' advanced capture and pre-processing hardware with the with the feature-rich Digital Rapids Stream software for installation into existing Windows-based workstations. Support for Digital Rapids' TouchStream live streaming appliance is planned as a future update.
