VMIX Introduces Vidcinity iPhone App for Location-based Video Capture and Discovery

SAN DIEGO, Calif(12 Apr 2011)

VMIX (www.vmix.com), a leading carrier-class online video platform provider, today announced the public availability of Vidcinity, a free mobile application for location-based video capture and discovery.

The new iPhone app, available on the App Store, lets users upload and pin video to a precise geographic location. Vidcinity then notifies other users of the app nearing that locale that a video is available for viewing.

"The idea is that Vidcinity users add videos to the areas where they live and travel over time," said Ian Miller, co-founder and technical product manager at VMIX. "We see it as enabling communities to share and discover video before, during and after an event, or simply as making it easy for individuals to share the sensory experience of a locale."

Miller said he anticipates Vidcinity being used for both personal and commercial applications. "You're visiting San Diego and walking through Balboa Park for the first time. On Vidcinity you might see a tourism clip about the 1915 Panama Expo held at the park, a video tour and menu listings for the Prado restaurant, and a trailer for the latest 3D movie showing at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center."

"You'll likely also discover a dozen or more videos submitted by people who have visited the park's museums, concerts and gardens, and the idea is that this cache of videos will grow, becoming more valuable and useful over time."

Miller added that Vidcinity is the first robust application for location-based video. "We've seen multiple social and geo-based photo apps in recent months, and some even accept video, but nothing that offers the functionality and potential that we see for Vidcinity."

Vidcinity for iPhone features include:

· Video capture, upload and automatic geo-pinning

· Auto-discovery of videos within a user-defined range

· Fast low-res uploads on 3G networks, auto-replaced with higher-res files when Wi-Fi is available

· Easy video sharing to Facebook

· Opportunities for location-based promotion and advertising

"We're excited about the applications of Vidcinity for tourism, real estate, education, local commerce-the list goes on," said Miller. "Vidcinity will appeal to amateur historians, urban treasure hunters and guerilla marketers alike. Our goal is to put video in the hands of individuals and let them weave their own story around a community."

VMIX plans to offer Vidcinity for iPad 2 and Android later in the year. For more information or to sign up for a Vidcinity account, visit: www.vidcinity.com and www.vmix.com/products/vidcinity. Like us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter.
