Solutions Architect/ Technical Program Manager – Operations

Comcast is going to change the way America looks at television. Sound
exciting? Then be a part of our next big thing. Our customers want access
to entertainment from every source – and we are going to bring it to them!
Whether it’s their TV, PC, smartphone, or the next cool device, we are
building a next-generation platform that will serve them all and provide
a seamless experience. It is the converged world we have all been waiting
for. We are creating a start-up to make it happen. Remember start-ups?
Small teams, high performance, agility, creativity, ideal culture, bad
desk chairs? That is us except for the bad chairs, because we will have
the security of Comcast behind us.

We are looking for people who put the “know” in innovation, and bring out
the “imagine” in imagination. We are looking for leaders, not followers.
But be sure to leave your ego at the door, and bring your best ideas,
open mind and communication skills. Because we are building the perfect
product development environment and hand-picking a product dream team.
Because if you rock, you should be here.

The Challenge:

The Solutions Architect role requires a strong technical program management
background and several years of development experience. Comcast’s custom
solutions are extensive and require in-depth technical understanding to
apply them effectively. Solutions Architects do not contribute code to
the project codebase, but being able to prototype new functionality is
important.

The Task:

* Provide robust solutions for interconnected components of a complex
system involving many other groups and organizations within Comcast.
* Work directly with the product management organization to provide
critical leadership and guidance in the requirements definition process.

* Evaluate, and when necessary prototype, alternatives to determine the
most appropriate approach for each solution.
* Prepare design and specification documentation that can be understood
by technical, functional and business driven teams throughout the
organization.
* Provide support to the engineering team members to estimate the level
of effort required for a given project or component.
* Act as the champion for the components of the overall solution that you
are responsible for while working with other principal team members to
ensure a collaborative approach is undertaken prior to implementation.

* Be an active member of the larger solutions architects team, acting as
a whole to define the best possible global solution.
* Provide appropriate support to the documentation, support and training
organizations related to your solutions.
* Represent the project and Comcast in discussions with internal and
external groups and organizations, including Comcast executive staff,
vendors, other MSOs, industry organizations, etc.

Required Qualifications:

* 5+ years software experience at an architect/technical program management
level
* Demonstrated ability to lead the design and development of complex
applications.
* Proven experience as a technical leader.
* Familiarity with Lean and Agile software development processes.
* Strong sense of responsibility and ownership for the success of projects.

* Strong technical program management experience and experience defining
and developing against SDKs.
* Understanding of and experience with the full software development
lifecycle, including functional and technical specification, implementation,
QA processes, deployment, and maintenance.
* Demonstrated leadership ability and confidence to work closely with
members of different teams or organizations in collaborative scenarios.

* In-depth understanding of services-based software design as it applies
to scaling, security, etc.
* Strong Operations experience in ONE OR MORE of the following areas:
MPEG2/MPEG4, H.264, HTTP caching, DRM, video streaming, Akamai Level 3

Desired Qualifications:

* Familiarity with SOA.
* Experience in the cable or telco industries a plus.
* Proficiency in Java, AJAX, XML, DHTML, JavaScript, a plus.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Excellent organizational and time management skills.
* Keen attention to detail and a high level of commitment.

** Qualified candidates should email their resumes in confidence to
joshua_sille@cable.comcast.com for prompt consideration.
