John Jones has spent almost two decades in the music industry pioneering innovative and interactive ways for fans to access their favorite music. As Senior Vice President of Programming, Artist and Label Relations, Mr. Jones is responsible for managing relationships with MusicNet’s numerous music partners including all five major record labels and their subsidiaries, as well as a plethora of independent labels. In addition, Mr. Jones oversees the entire catalog of music in the MusicNet service accounting for pushing tracks into the system, clearing their publishing rights and making millions of tracks available to consumers through MusicNet’s distributors. He also manages all aspects of programming and bringing original content to the service.
Prior to joining MusicNet, Mr. Jones was involved creating the concept of delivering on-demand music through the TV. At World Theatre Inc. and The Box Music Network, he was in charge of music programming including creating promotions both on- and off-line, developing strategic partnerships and integrating branding and marketing to ultimately enhance viewership. Prior to that, Mr. Jones spent more than five years overseeing music programming and as senior producer at MuchMusic, a music TV channel aired throughout the US and Canada, where he was recognized as one of the most influential people in Canadian television. He was responsible for network programming, producing music performances, interviews and stunts to drive viewership, and executing online programming. Mr. Jones started his career in radio, as music director at Canadian stations including CFNY-FM and CHFI-FM, where his efforts resulted in both stations being recognized as “Station Of The Year”, and Mr. Jones was awarded “Music Director Of The Year”. Prior to working in commercial radio, Mr. Jones launched and programmed college station CKLN-FM, and was a music producer for Canada’s national broadcaster, the CBC.
