Streaming Media Producer contributing editor Shawn Lam met with Teradek's Topher Delancy in the Teradek booth at NAB 2015 to discuss the Teradek VidiU Pro, a new addition to Teradek's popular line of compact streaming boxes. VidiU Pro, like the original VidiU and the new VidiU Mini, streams to Teradek’s Live:Air iPad Production Suite and to any online video platform using RTMP. It further simplifies the process by integrating APIs from several new CDN partners such as DaCast, Ooyala, Akamai, and Azure, along with popular favorites Ustream, Livestream, YouTube Live, and Wowza.
Delancy describes VidiU Pro as a "supercharged" version of the VidiU. "We took all the features that everybody loves about VidiU and then we just ramped it up. There's a better WiFi chip, all kinds of accessories."
But the biggest innovation, Delancy said, "is it now has bonding." Usinfg Teradek's ShareLink bonding technology, users can combine the uplink capability of up to 4 smartphones, or use Ethernet, a USB dongle, or any combination of 4 network interfaces, mixed and matched at the user's discretion, to create a more robust link to the web. "If one of them drops out," Delancy added, "you've still got 3 backups running to keep your feed strong."
