Matrox Monarch EDGE H.264 encoder delivers exceptional-quality, low-latency 4:2:2 10-bit video at up to UHD or quad HD for webcasting and remote production applications
Matrox® Video today launches Matrox Monarch EDGE, a 4K/multi-HD, low-latency encoder for webcasting and remote integration (REMI) applications. A powerful H.264 encoder that can flourish in any workflow, Matrox Monarch EDGE is capable of delivering resolutions up to 3840x2160p60 or quad 1920x1080p60 for 4:2:2 10-bit, broadcast-quality video. This new encoder also offers flexible, future-proofed 3G/12G-SDI and SMPTE ST 2110 over 25 GbE connectivity, plus versatile multi-protocol support including RTMP, SRT, MPEG-2, and RTSP. Video professionals, system integrators, and broadcasting organizations are now equipped to easily address demanding requirements in new, emerging, and existing webcasting, REMI, and high-density contribution workflows.
Featured workflows:
Webcasting
Monarch EDGE provides broadcasters with robust, low-latency, and dynamic H.264 encoding capabilities, enabling them to leverage their existing over-the-top (OTT) services to deliver specialized web content. Broadcasters can now expand their reach beyond traditional linear programming by using the latest in webcasting innovations—such as high-frame rate (HFR) 4K, 4K 360 VR, and multi-camera selection—to stream compelling live content to laptops/desktops, smartphones, tablets, and smart TVs.
REMI
Monarch EDGE allows broadcasters to produce live, multi-camera sporting events, while minimizing on-site expenses by keeping talent in-studio. A compact, low-latency, low-power remote production encoder, Monarch EDGE delivers synchronized, secure remote camera feeds to a master control room or to the cloud for production. Programs destined for web or OTT delivery can use the Monarch EDGE 4:2:0 8-bit encoder model, while the 4:2:2 10-bit-capable encoder version is ideal for demanding, broadcast-quality productions.
High-density contribution.
The contribution- or mezzanine-level encoding capabilities of Monarch EDGE provide broadcasters with a means to add additional or complementary backhaul feeds, or redundant contribution channels to their primary feeds. This small-footprint appliance with a tiny power envelop delivers four channels of 4:2:2 10-bit, broadcast-quality streams. Monarch EDGE also has enough encoding horsepower to generate simultaneous low-bitrate 4:2:0 proxy streams for each input, which can be monitored by any device on the network.
“The ground-breaking Matrox Monarch EDGE encoder enables broadcasters and live-event producers to explore and deploy new, highly-efficient webcasting and remote production workflows,” says Alberto Cieri, senior director of sales and marketing, Matrox Video. “Take webcasting, for example: the Monarch EDGE allows operators to reach online audiences easily and affordably, delivering engaging live content—such as sporting events—in high-quality 4Kp60 or in dynamic, user-selectable, multi-camera-synchronized views. For REMI production encoding, Monarch EDGE gives broadcasters a robust, compact tool to cost-effectively produce multi-angle live events—with contribution-quality, low-latency feeds—thus extending the production studio to any remote location via a standard network connection.”
