The TriCaster 460 and 3Play 4800 are helping establish the SXSW live channel, sxsw.com/live, as the always-on destination for fresh content from SXSW
NewTek today announced that the TriCaster™ 460 multi-camera video production system and the 3Play™ 4800 playback server are the live production hub inside the master control room for content streaming at this week’s SXSW Music Film Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas. In essence, the TriCaster 460 and 3Play 4800 are helping establish the SXSW live channel, sxsw.com/live, as the always-on destination for fresh content from SXSW.
The TriCaster 460 will 24-hour live stream and playback pre-shot content starting at 2:00 p.m. on March 12 and run continuously until 2:00 a.m. on March 16. Programming will include live music and pre-recorded keynote and featured speaker sessions from SXSW Interactive. Musical performances by Foster The People on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. and all official nighttime performances at the North Door venue, one of the longest running musical venues at SXSW, will be streamed live. The 3Play 4800 will house pre-recorded content, help organize and build out playlists, and keep track of show times, representing a new workflow for SXSW live streaming producers.
“This year we decided to go big with a round-the-clock live webcast incorporating live and pre-recorded content. We’re using a TriCaster 460 to produce the streamed program in real time, in concert with a 3Play 4800 to organize, playback and broadcast it all, much like a network would,” said Russ Hull, producer, SXSW Pro Media. “TriCaster and 3Play allow us to bring the magic of SXSW to the world stage, far beyond Austin’s city limits, with relative ease and affordability. It’s the biggest thing we’ve done on the live webcasting side by a mile.”
“SXSW is an epicenter of art and innovation in the twenty-first century,” said Philip Nelson, chief relationship officer for NewTek. “TriCaster and 3Play were built for events like SXSW, getting fresh content and ideas out to as many people as possible in a network-style production.”
Two additional TriCaster 855 multi-camera video systems are being used to stream and capture all keynote and featured speaker sessions for SXSW Interactive, March 7-11. SXSW Interactive keynotes feature Chelsea Clinton, Adam Savage, mad scientist and special effects wizard, Anne Wojcicki, CEO and co-founder of 23andMe, Neil deGrasse Tyson, legendary astrophysicist, and Austin Kleon, best-selling author. These sessions will comprise part of the pre-recorded content for sxsw.com/live.
TriCaster multi-camera production systems offer the power of a live network studio to anyone who wants to use video to communicate with an audience online – and look like a professional. Students, premiere broadcast networks, major league sports networks and teams, along with some of the world’s biggest corporations—all use TriCaster to produce and stream live events, and expand their audiences. The NewTek family of TriCaster products integrates everything into a single, elegant, cost-effective and easy-to-use system, eliminating the need to buy and install separate components.
Used for sports replay, slow motion and highlights—and for virtually any multi-camera capture and playback environment—3Play 4800 has the most complete real-time capabilities available in any multi-camera replay server, making it possible for organizations in any market to produce a gripping live experience that attracts more audiences—and sponsors––at just a fraction of the cost of other systems.
