Review: Adorama Flashpoint CL-1300 LED Panel Light
Adorama's Flashpoint 1300 LED Panel light is powerful, flexible and well-featured as a standalone light and can be easily integrated into two- and four-light panels should the need arise.
This dramatically simplifies a quick-and-dirty selfie shoot because the shadow is directly behind me; no more having to set up four lights, two on me, and two on the back wall to eliminate the shadows. I just saved about 30 minutes per shoot. Never one to shy away from a running camera, I decided not to waste the setup, and shoot (and reshoot, and reshoot) a “quick” video review which you can watch here.
To test flicker and noise, I shot a bare wall while varying the intensity of the light, which was only slightly less scintillating than the aforementioned video review. You can watch that video below. Though not all reviewers recorded the same results, in my shoot the lamp was flicker free and perfectly quiet at all tested intensity levels.
While maturing, LED lamps are still a relatively new product category, and they have experienced some growing pains. The CL-1300 is a lot better designed and physically more robust than the Flashpoint LED lights I reviewed about two years ago and generates a lot more light.
Adorama is also a reputable company that stands behind their products, so if you do have problems, you can be sure that they will be resolved. Overall, if you’re looking for an affordable, powerful, and convenient light for general-purpose use, the CL1300 might just fit the bill.

With only 250 incandescent or daylight-balanced lights, the Adorama Flashpoint 500C feels like a niche product suitable primarily for producers who need to support both incandescent and daylight-balanced light in single light. Given the improved mounting options and fit and finish, Jan Ozer reports that he'd buy it in a heartbeat if it offered all daylight-balanced bulbs.
All of the items Adorama's Flashpoint product line are priced in the $200-$400 range, but quality-wise they're very good. They're not the most refined and precision instruments available, but they get the job done, and this 7-inch, 1280x800-resolution LCD monitor, which lists for $400, is no exception.
In this review we're going to look at the Adorama Flashpoint line of Cinema DSLR Gear. We're going to start off with a broadly compatible and modular system including the Mattebox, the Shoulder Rig, and the Follow Focus, and finish off (in a separate review) with Adorama's 7-inch LCD monitor.
