From the Wrestling Ring to the Superdome: Streaming Live Sports with D2 Productions
How D2 Productions carved out a niche in the sports event video live production and streaming market by capitalizing on flexibility and mobility
Remote Control via iPad
But, that's not all. Flexibility played a huge part when designing the interior of the truck. Since Genesis is compact, the limited space means that often times, there is no place for me to sit. Taking this into account, along with the idea of maximizing mobility, I decided to implement an iPad to facilitate remote controlled routing.
Using an iPad running the Videohub Smart Control software, I can remotely set up and route everything-I can stand in the back of the truck or go outside and route from there. It's a very practical application and incredibly helpful and efficient for me as an EIC, saving much needed time and effort. Clients are blown away when we show them how it works.
From Football to Hockey to Soccer to Wrestling
Although introduced only recently, Genesis has already handled a wide variety of events, including Ivy League football, ECAC hockey and NCAA men's soccer, and the truck is slated to provide video production support for webcasts at Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.
One early yet enthusiastic client is Ring of Honor Wrestling, the third-largest professional wrestling organization in the U.S. With several shows every month, Ring of Honor Wrestling turns to Genesis as its live production truck of choice for its specific needs, including recorded tapings packaged for television and live pay per view events streamed online. Within Genesis, each bench has I/O panels for patching devices (Figure 3, below). With eight recorders recording the action, including ISOs of all the cameras, audio and video wiring can become a nightmare.

However, the iPad and Compact Videohub let me tackle the most difficult workflows with ease. I have plenty of router capacity to get the right video sources into all the recorders, and I can do all this from my iPad. I can be standing in front of a bank of recorders and make quick work of routing everything instead of dealing with a long, tedious process.
Today's technologies encourage the proliferation of content, and there's more than enough to go around. Genesis was built around quality and affordable products, which allow us to fill that need and provide professional services to a wider assortment of clientele.
D2 handles a variety of clients and services, from live concerts, commencements, and corporate satellite shows to live event production, field shoots and editing, and streaming media. We're a small, but full-service shop, so we need to be as flexible as possible as a company, with our services and with our technology.
