Tutorial: Webcasting Live Events with the Winnov Cbox P2

Whether you're capturing lectures, presentations, or multiple camera concerts, Cbox is a simple, affordable, and flexible solution that's definitely worth a look.

Other “Create” Options

Let’s look at some other options (below).

The Web category produces on-demand files for delivery to computers and mobile devices, with presets for Flash, HLS, Silverlight, and Windows Media. If you choose Silverlight, you can output multiple files for adaptive streaming via Smooth Streaming (below).

As you can see in the screenshot below, wizards drive operation, so you don’t have to be a compression wiz to choose and configure outputs.

The Device category creates device-specific files for on-demand delivery to phones and tablets. You can stream live to desktops via Flash, Silverlight, and Windows Media, with HLS delivery available to iPhones and iPads. No need to buy a separate live encoder; it’s all built in.

You can create archive versions in both compressed and uncompressed formats, the latter useful for editing. By clicking the A/V Equipment, you can also create a stream for sending out to a projector, with other formats, like MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG available by clicking the More button.

Configuring Presets

Once you’ve selected your inputs and outputs, it’s time to configure your presets, which control the mix of the various outputs (below).

Creating a preset is easy. First, you click the Add Preset button (circled in the image above). Then you drag the inputs into the video mix, and configure them as desired.

As you can see in the screenshot below, you can create different presets for each output--notice the background in the Ustream output (top), but not in the Archive output just below it. And note the big difference between the Silverlight Multi-video preset and the other two. You’ll see why in a moment.
