The Extreme version provides a number of enhancements over the original TCXD850 including full HD recording treatment, with the ability to record 1080p30 of any discrete input as well as the program or AUX outputs (the TCXD850 could record only outputs). This extended ability to record both inputs and outputs means that 850 Extreme can perform isolation recording of up to 8 simultaneous camera inputs with its proprietary IsoCorder software.

HD video mixers aren't cheap, but they do offer amazing functionality inside compact boxes. I put Panasonic's AV-HS400N through its paces during an awards ceremony. I found much to like, and a few minor issues, and look forward to technologies like this becoming more affordable in the years to come.

Streaming concerts and other live events has established Ryan Bodie's Studio 26 as the go-to live event webcast provider in his region and in some key entertainment areas, ranging from concert series in the spring to festivals in the summer and one-off arena gigs like a Chaka Khan show. Bodie estimates that his crew shoots, switches, and streams 80 live events per year, with maybe half of those involving music.
