Alan Stein leads InterDigital’s Visual Standards and Business Strategy team, where he manages a global team of senior technology experts who participate in major video standards bodies and important industry forums. Alan is currently a board member of the Media Coding Industry Forum (MC-IF) and was formerly a board member of the UHD Alliance and CTA’s Video Board, and since 2013 has been the chair of ATSC’s TG3/S41 group, the video technology standardization group for ATSC 3.0. Alan received ATSC’s prestigious Bernard J. Lechner Award in 2021. He holds 17 granted patents in the realm of digital video. Alan’s career prior to InterDigital includes years as a research staff member at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, DSP architect at Ariel Corporation, multimedia software consultant at Sarnoff and Bell Labs, and 17 years at Thomson/Technicolor, working on video codec development, IPTV and streaming, R&D management, and technology and standards strategy. Alan was appointed as a Technicolor Fellow in 2015.
