Blip.tv Re-Launches Website, Focuses on Discovery

The people at Blip.tv know they have strong online programming, now they need to do a better job of helping viewers discover it. With that in mind, Blip.tv announced a relaunch of the site today with the goal of surfacing original programming. The new look is clean, white, and uncluttered. It looks a bit like Hulu's homepage.

The revised site features episodes on the front page that have been hand selected by Blip.tv editors. Videos are organized into 16 categories, including comedy, drama, sports, fashion, and videogames. The search experience has also been improved: results pages have large graphics and clear descriptions so that viewers can find programs that interest them.

Included in the redesign are tools that help creators link to their social networking sites, organize their content into libraries, and recommend other shows. Show creators can also now make their own site graphics, attracting attention with film-quality show posters.

"Until now there hasn't been a single website dedicated to showcasing the most entertaining series on the web. Today we are launching that site," says Mike Hudack, Blip.tv's CEO and co-founder. "We're focused on helping people discover the best original series and allowing producers to build sustainable series for the long-term."

Along with the redesign, Blip.tv announced that it has reached more than three billion views to date, and will soon reach one billion views per quarter.

In March of this year, competing online network Next New Networks was purchased by YouTube for a price rumored to be under $50 million.
