How to Encode for Adaptive Streaming

Article Featured Image

"The concept of adaptive streaming is you encode multiple files so you can optimize the experience at both the high and the low end," said online video writer and consultant Jan Ozer, introducing his Streaming Media East instructional session on encoding for adaptive streaming.

"'Adaptive' means it adapts to changing experiences, so it's not click a high stream and it stays high the entire time. You click one button, it's transparent to the viewer, and the stream goes up and down depending on factors like CPU utilization and buffer status at the player," Ozer added.

In his session, Ozer covered transmuxing strategies, streaming Flash via RTMP and HTTP, HTTP live streaming to the iOS and Android platforms, and Silverlight.
