Kaltura Gains Video Analytics and Scheduling with Community Edition V2

Kaltura's customers would be getting a lot more for their money, but in this case they're not paying anything. Open source online video platform Kaltura made a major announcement today at the OSCON 2010 Open Source Convention in Portland, Oregon: it released version 2.0 of its Kaltura On-Prem Community Edition Platform, the company's free, community-supported video platform.

Users will benefit from the addition of detailed video analytics, access control features that determine what people or regions can see videos, scheduling features, syndication tools for search engines and destination sites, and more. Read the full release notes here and download the software here.

Version 2 of the platform comes exactly one year after it debuted. In the past year, the edition and its supporting widgets, applications, and plug-in were downloaded over 120,000 times.

The improvements to version 2 came from the feedback and code contributions of the user base. The platform is cross-platform and supports delivery to all video-enabled mobile phones.

"Kaltura is disrupting the online-video marketplace by solving the 'Build versus Buy' dilemma with the introduction of a third open-source alternative that is the best of both worlds," said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman & CEO. "The Community Edition and its components have been downloaded 30 times more than all the proprietary platforms combined over the course of the past year! The reason for this is that it not only eliminates platform costs, but it also provides unparalleled flexibility, ease of integration and control, ensuring freedom from vendor lock-in and an unmatched pace of innovation that is fueled by thousands of developers across the world."
