Survey: The Future of Encoding
Want to know what the encoding world is going to look like in 2020? So do we. That’s why we’re asking Streaming Media Magazine readers and visitors to our website to complete a 19-question survey. As an incentive, one lucky respondent will receive a $100 Amazon gift card, and all survey respondents will receive a copy of the survey results.
With the survey, we’re trying to learn how many encoding professionals plan to move their VOD and live encoding to the cloud, and how quickly. Do you see 4K video in your 5-year future, and if so, do you plan to use HEVC or VP9 to encode it? And while platforms like OTT set-top boxes and smart TVs are critical to premium content distributors like Netflix and Hulu, we want to know how important they are to smaller video publishers.
The survey should take no more than five minutes to complete. It’s sponsored solely by Streaming Media and will be used only for editorial purposes. The only personal information asked is an email address to let you know if you won the gift card and to send you the survey results. In addition to providing data for the article, it will also provide useful input for the direction of future editorial content. So, please take a few minutes to complete it.
For the article "Encoding 2020," which will appear in the September issue of Streaming Media magazine, we’ll look at the survey data as well as ask top executives from various encoding companies their thoughts about the future of the market. Overall, it’s a dynamic, interesting time in the video marketplace, with multiple transitions in play, like the shifts to cloud encoding, from Flash to HTML5, and from 1080p to 4K.
We hope to present the most accurate possible picture of what the encoding world will look like in 2020. Please help us by completing the survey.
