WSN TV 75: A Business Model for the Next Hundred Years
Streaming at WSN TV 75
Streaming plays a vital role at WSN TV 75, although its place is not guaranteed in the future of the company. Today, "if it’s video, all of it’s streaming," says Batson about the video content that her company will offer for the near future. "We can’t do download unless the user is in Korea." Downloading is the delivery mechanism that Batson thinks will be the most prevalent for transmitting digital media files in the future. "By downloading, you enable people to do things a little bit easier," she says, especially when it comes to moving the files around between devices. But streaming will always have a role to play in the overall digital media landscape. Batson envisions a future in which streaming is given away for free as a hook to draw in users who will then choose to purchase content via download.
Until that future arrives, WSN TV 75 will continue to work with entrepreneurial spirits to build the business models that will attempt to use tomorrow’s fiber network to create an all-digital economy. Batson has spent the last year making contacts and raising capital, and she’s on the verge of taking a big step towards realizing her goals. By the beginning of November, WSN TV 75 should have a shopping cart up and running on their site enabling their first venture into ecommerce. "We’ve got everything in place and ready to go," says Batson. The company has 40 Professionals with content ready to sell and more than 150 developing content in the wings. And with a multipronged marketing strategy already being deployed, Batson has positioned her company to lay the groundwork for the future of digital media distribution. Only time will tell if WSN TV 75’s approach to doing business will allow it to back up its Web site’s claim that the company is a business built for the next 100 years.
