Mirror Image: Publisher 5.0 Solves VOD and Live Streaming Issues
[Note: This sponsored interview was recorded at Streaming Media West 2014.]
Live streaming video is taking off, DDN (dynamic delivery network) Mirror Image has found, and publishers are looking for more advanced live options. Luckily, Publisher 5.0 has them covered. At the recent Streaming Media West conference in sunny Huntington Beach, California, Charlie White, the company's CRO, explained why Publisher excels with live video.
"We have found that customers want to be able to do a lot more on the live side than traditional online video platforms have enabled them to be able to do," White explained. "All the way from taking in a live stream to be able to automatically monitor that live stream making sure that the quality stays there, as well as to record it, capture it and then publish it back out for VOD-based consumption, as well. We've brought that all together into a simple workflow that our customers can now use in a matter of a couple of clicks."
Recently, the Publisher 5.0 platform has become more flexible, thanks to the creation of several APIs.
"Building off of the Publisher 5.0 release, one of the other big things that we've focused on has been building out a series of APIs that really enable not only Publisher, but a lot of other products that we work on at Mirror Image," Whie said. "What that's really allowed us to do from a sales and marketing perspective is to look at customers and figure out how we really partner with them to be able to achieve their business goals."

Eric: Hi I'm Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen, editor of Streaming Media Magazine here in beautiful Huntington Beach, California, at Streaming Media West 2014. I'm talking to Charlie White who is the Chief Revenue Officer of Mirror Image. Welcome Back, Charlie.
Charlie: Nice to be here, Eric. Thank you.
Eric: You've been here before. We've talked a lot about Mirror Image in the past. You've been a long time supporter of Streaming Media. I hear there are some new things going on in your online video platform which is called Publisher.
Charlie: That's correct.
Eric: Can you tell us a little bit about what those are?
Charlie: We have continued to advance the functionality in our online video platform, Publisher, this year actually releasing 5.0 so we have the next version of that. We've taken a really great look at all the core parts of functionality that our customers are using, and blended that into a product that we believe is going to solve a significant percentage of our clients' issues when it comes to dealing with video on demand or dealing with live streaming.
Eric: What are some of those particular issues that you feel you're addressing?
Charlie: For example right now, we have found that customers want to be able to do a lot more on the live side than traditional online video platforms have enabled them to be able to do. All the way from taking in a live stream to be able to automatically monitor that live stream making sure that the quality stays there, as well as to record it, capture it and then publish it back out for VOD-based consumption, as well. We've brought that all together into a simple workflow that our customers can now use in a matter of a couple of clicks.
Eric: Taking a look at the bigger picture regarding Mirror Image, what are some other developments that have happened at Mirror Image in the last year or so?
Charlie: I think building off of the Publisher 5.0 release, one of the other big things that we've focused on has been building out a series of APIs that really enable not only Publisher, but a lot of other products that we work on at Mirror Image. What that's really allowed us to do from a sales and marketing perspective is to look at customers and figure out how we really partner with them to be able to achieve their business goals, whether they be revenue, distribution or a combination of those, look at what their personal workflows are, or their corporate workflows, and be able to bring together that solution based on our APIs, their current workflow and ultimately put together a path for them to get to where they want to be.
Eric: Speaking of paths to get to where people want to be, we'll look ahead the next six months or twelve months. What do you see happening for Mirror Image toward the rest of 2014 and into 2015?
Charlie: I think we've got a lot of really exciting opportunities that we're working on right now. I hope to be able to tell you more about those in about six months or so in New York, but I think what you'll see from us has been a lot more of these kind of custom workflow solutions that we've been working on for some big customers. We're also starting to do a little bit more with another new product we launched this year called Distributed Database. Where we're actually with companies to be able to keep databases in sync in real time from a global perspective, not too dissimilar to some of the content situations that we've solved over the course of the last 16 years of our existence. We're now looking at how do you actually take that to the next level? Some interesting things when it comes to the dynamic side of our business, inserting of analytics and intelligence into the transaction through Dynamic Database, and then also the ability to get a little bit deeper and a little bit more personalized with our customers and develop the solutions that they're working for.
Eric: All right. Very cool. Thank you so much, Charlie. We're talking to Charlie White from Mirror Image here at Streaming Media West in Huntington Beach.
