These days, connected devices range from mobile handhelds with "always on" access to content to connected home entertainment devices. This presents the challenge of creating content profiles for a huge range of device types and data rates.

Even once the workflow is built, the next concern is making sure you get the eyeballs to watch. Just building it or having tier 1 content doesn't mean they will come. Competition is fierce as over the top providers and traditional broadcast infrastructures scramble to provide the perfect blend of content at the right price. So with content everywhere, the same content in many cases, how do you win the viewer's attention? Quality and portability are the key.

An HD picture that scales from the living room to handhelds is a given, but the audio experience has lagged far behind. This is typical of video formats, but consider the fact that your content will be played on everything from home theaters to mobile handsets. How do you deliver a compelling audio experience to such a wide range of devices?

First, give audio the bits it deserves and scale it back where necessary. Second, if surround is available use it. Then when the listener accesses your content on a home theater or devices with surround headphone processing, they will get the best possible audio experience. Sound can draw you into the world, even more effectively than 3D. Solutions are available to do this on mobile devices today. Turn an ear toward audio and draw the consumer in.
