52% of Colleges and Universities Use a Video Solution: Kaltura
Higher education has reached a critical tipping point, says Kaltura: According to its 2016 State of Video in Education report, 52 percent of its higher education respondents say their institution now uses a video solution that's integrated with its learning management solution. That's a rise of 6 percentage points from the previous year.
The report shows video use increasing in all areas of academic life: 75 percent of higher education students now use video as part of their assignments (up from 71 percent last year), and 58 percent of higher education respondents say their institution offers a flipped classroom approach, where students view video lectures outside the classroom and in-class time is used for discussions or exercises.
Lecture capture systems are gaining in popularity, now used in 77 percent of institutions (up from 72 percent). Video is even used to offer feedback on assignments at 32 percent of institutions (up from 26 percent last year).
Respondents were highly impressed with the use of video in education, with 93 percent saying it has a positive impact on student satisfaction, and 88 percent saying it improves student achievement levels. Additionally, 87 percent think video in education will grow in importance and acceptance.
“Our third study on video in education indicates that video in the classroom passed an important milestone during the 2015/16 academic year. For the first time, over 50 percent of higher education respondents report that their institution has now integrated a video solution into the LMS," says Kaltura chairman and CEO Ron Yekutiel. "If proof were needed that video is now mainstream in education, then this is it."
Kaltura gathered its data from an online survey of over 1,500 educators in April 2016. Download the full report for free (registration required).
