AOL Leads in Online Video Ads, Says September comScore Rankings
How's this for a good month: In the August comScore video rankings, AOL wasn't even in the top ten for video ad views. One month later, it's taken the number one spot, besting even Google sites, which includes YouTube. Chalk it up to hard work, perseverance, and purchasing Adap.TV, which was the number two video ad streamer in August.
AOL properties streamed 3.7 billion video ads in September, more than Google sites' 3.2 billion ads. AOL showed impressive reach, streaming video ads to 49.6 percent of online viewers. In all, U.S. video viewers saw 22.9 billion video ads last month.
In comScore's content video rankings, AOL actually dipped a bit. Google sites have a lock on the top spot, but back in August AOL moved up to take the number two position away from Facebook. In September, however, Facebook took it back. comScore reports that a U.S. audience of 188.7 million unique viewers watched 46.0 billion content videos last month. That averages out to 1,248.3 minutes per viewer. Not bad, considering that the comScore rankings don't include mobile device or connected TV playback.
comScore also reports that 87 percent of the connected U.S. audience watched online video in September, and the average content video ran 5.1 minutes.
