Aereo Coming to Android Devices in September

The biggest winner in the Time Warner/CBS dispute may be little Aereo, and soon the streaming service will add an important feature to its toolset: Android device support.

The International Business Times reported that Aereo's CEO, Chet Kanojia has asserted that Aereo will release an Android app sometime next month. Currently Aereo is available through desktops browsers, iOS devices, Apple TVs, and Roku boxes, so an Android app will be a welcome addition. The company hasn't revealed the specific date the app will debut. Aereo originally planned to offer an Android app last summer, but that didn't work out.

September is looking to be a big month for Aereo, which has announced that it will begin offering service in Miami on September 2, Chicago on September 13, Houston on September 15, and Dallas on September 23. Aereo has offered an aggressive rollout schedule since it launched.

Aereo streams over-the-air broadcast channels to subscribers, letting them pause live TV or record it to a cloud DVR. Service starts at $8 per month for a 20-hour DVR or $12 per month for a 60-hour DVR. The company's service has been extremely controversial with networks, as ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox are all suing claiming copyright violation.
