Akamai Adds Targeted Video Ad Tool to Cloud Suite
Content delivery network Akamai adds an important tool to its Sola Vision cloud-based media streaming and distribution suite today with new Ad Integration Services. This set of services lets publishers deliver video ads targeted per user into their streams. Akamai says Ad Integration Services can scale for high traffic sites, and delivers a smoother ad experience than a client-based method.
Ad Integration Services is able to work with multiple ad networks, inserting targeted ads into linear video and video-on-demand. It uses mDialog's Smart Stream Platform and an open architecture so that publishers can keep their current workflows while still getting the benefits of targeted ads.
Akamai says that using a cloud-based solution for ad-insertion rather than one that works at the player level simplifies the process. It avoids last-mile delivery problems that can cause quality issues when ads are inserted into content. In Akamai's solution, the player/client uses an SDK to ensure IAB (Internet Advertising Bureau)-compliant and accurate ad measurements.
Sola Vision is a modular cloud-based suite that offers tools for managing workflow, protection, and connectivity. It's designed to let publishers deliver high-definition video experiences to large audiences no matter what devices they're using. Ad Integration Services are compatible with encoders such as Cisco Media Processor, Elemental Live, and Envivio C4.
