Avid Internet Solutions Launches Server Cluster at Streaming Media Europe

Avid Internet Solutions (www.avid.com), the Internet infrastructure division of Avid Technology, Inc., launched their Trilligent Cluster streaming media server into the European Market at Streaming Media Europe 2000.

The Trilligent Cluster is a high-bandwidth content delivery platform designed to meet scalability demands of streaming media service providers and video-on-demand companies. Built on the same file-system software as Avid's shared storage technology for the broadcasting and film industries, the new streaming media server allows content distributors to store, serve and manage more high-bandwidth media files.

Michael Hoch, Research Analyst, Internet Infrastructure Group, Aberdeen Group, adds that "leveraging its experience and expertise in the digital media marketplace, Avid can offer a strong streaming media storage and serving platform for the interactive Internet."

Avid reports the ability to store 7.3 TB of media, enabling up to 2,000 users to simultaneously view full-length, DVD-quality streams over an IP connection. Accordingly, the performance optimizations allow the cluster to support up to 5,000 Mbps streaming bandwidth, store nearly 20,000 hours of video and deliver more than 10,000 unique Windows Media, Real, or QuickTime streams.

Pricing varies by configuration, but entry-level systems providing 300Mbps bandwidth with 80 GB of mirrored storage start at US$95,000.
