BMG Entertainment and MusicBank Enter Agreement
Look out myPlay.com, here comes MusicBank, a new company that says will offer licensed content to its users without having to upload or encode it.
MusicBank is filling up its content from BMG Entertainment, one of the big five record lables. It announced a deal with BMG today.
"MusicBank's service is an innovative and secure way for BMG to bring ourartists closer to their fans via the Internet," said Kevin Conroy, chiefmarketing officer and president, new technology, BMG Entertainment.
"MusicBank worked with BMG to architect a revolutionary agreement formusic delivery on the web, an agreement where everyone is protected and whereeveryone wins: artists, labels, retailers and consumers," saidPierce Ledbetter, founder and chairman, MusicBank.
MusicBank says it had developed a unique way of verifying the ownership of copyrighted materials, but hasn't yet diclosed what that is. The company only said it would involve "retailer verification" or "through physical possession".
The service will debut this fall.
