B&N Nook Tablet to Gain Netflix
Read a book or watch a movie, instead: Netflix and Barnes & Noble announced today that the upcoming Nook Tablet will have Netflix pre-installed. Additionally, people who already own the Nook Color will be able to download the Netflix app for streaming videos.
The Nook Tablet lists for $249 and will begin arriving in stores next week. It will also offer Hulu Plus access. It includes a 7-inch screen and streams content via Wi-Fi.
The announcement is a small piece of good news for Netflix, which could use some positive press after its recent string of bad decisions. The move also offers subscribers a reason to hold onto their subscriptions, as movies and TV shows can now be streamed to one more device.
"We are thrilled to offer the Netflix service on the Barnes & Noble Nook for the first time," says Bill Holmes, Netflix's vice president of business development. "We believe that many Netflix members are also Nook users, and now they can use the device they embraced for reading to instantly watch movies and TV episodes streaming from Netflix."
"Movies and TV shows have never looked better than on our Nook Tablet, with 16 million colors and full IPS lamination to reduce reflection and glare," says Jamie Iannone, Barnes & Noble's president of digital products.
