BT to Provide Content Management for Web Pay-Per-View Service

BT Broadcast Services has announced that it will provide UK pay-per-view operator digital broadcasting company (dbc) with a digital content management solution to webcast a new TV service over multiple Internet platforms. Hosted on BT's MediaREEL platform, the service will be accessible via narrowband ISP, broadband DSL, and third-generation mobile technology.

"Whether it is accessed via the PC, TV, or a games console, the Internet is fast becoming the key entertainment portal in the home," said Richard Brooke, chief executive of dbc.

The new streaming service -- udirect.tv -- will be available to consumers in the fall. Consumers will be able to search and view content that has been commissioned and acquired by dbc, including exclusive short films and international sports events. The site will also allow visitors to purchase videos and DVDs, and register online for dbc's "u>direct" films and sports services on Sky digital.
