Brightcove Boosts Stability for HTML5 Video Cloud Players
Online video platform Brightcove made significant improvements to its Brightcove Video Cloud today, with a range of new features for its Video Cloud Smart Players.
Key among them are changes that will help customers avoid inconsistent HTML5 video playback among different devices. Brightcove created a new framework for using the HTML5 video tag that promises greater consistency. It will also let the company add improvements over time that will work on any operating system.
Brightcove's Video Cloud Smart Player for HTML5 now supports the VAST 2.0 ad standards and works with ad-server DoubleClick. Improvements to the player will let it work with other third-party solutions, as well.
The company notes that since smartphones and tablets use different versions of the WebKit open source browser technology for rendering HTML5 video, viewers can experience inconsistent playback on different devices. Its new framework helps ensure consistency.
The improvements include an HTML5 abstraction layer, which accounts for operating system and browsers inconsistencies, and a universal player API, which ensures that behaviors will be the same in both Flash and HTML5.
"Our Video Cloud Smart Players ensure that content is accessible across all devices and operating systems without sacrificing the stability and consistency required for reliable advertising and analytics," says Ashraf Alkarmi, director of product management at Brightcove.
