Busker Adds Commerce to its Live Video Streaming Experience

The live streaming platform Busker announced today that it now allows its live streaming members to sell merchandise during their broadcasts. Viewers can buy the offerings without leaving the live video window.

Busker is part of a new wave of live video apps that allow creators to hold live group discussions with fans, with the creators talking on camera and viewers adding text comments. Fans can also tip their favorite creators. Competing live video platforms include YouNow and Live.me.

Busker's commerce feature is powered by payment processing company Stripe. Busker says that video creators might sell physical products such as t-shirts or art, or digital products like e-books and songs. Busker pays 85 percent of proceeds to the video creators.

“Busker’s newest addition is a game changing feature,” says musician Fabian Zayas-Luciano, known as "therealFABE" on Busker. “With just two broadcasts, I have already sold enough music, stickers, hats, and other merch to profit well into the hundreds. This gives me an opportunity to sell directly to my fans, and earn money in a very difficult industry.”

While this type of video platform is aimed at younger viewers—tweens and teens—a busker representative notes that Busker's audience is older and can afford to spend more on its favorite creators. Busker claims that its viewers spend 8 times more than do users of competing platforms.
