DaCast Brings Live Video to Facebook

Self-service live streaming site DaCast announced a feature today that lets customers add live streams to their Facebook pages. The feature is available immediately.

DaCast customers can now create a wall post with their channel URL to add live video. Viewers don't need any additional downloads or plug-ins to view the content. Social features let them share the live stream with others.

The company is pitching this feature for everyone from webcam users who want to create their own live events to bands that want a new way to connect with their fans. DaCast also notes that it could be a useful tool for houses of worship looking to put services online.

"We're very pleased to be able to offer easy to use live video streaming over Facebook," says Stephane Roulland, CEO of DaCast. "For the first time, more than 500 million active Facebook users can broadcast live video in only a few minutes. It's a huge step forward in the world of communications."

Both Ustream and Livestream already offer Facebook integration for live video.

DaCast is based in San Francisco, California, and has an office in Paris, France. The company launched in November, 2010.
