Disney and Comcast Offer TV Everywhere Service through Apple Apps
Good news for parents with Comcast TV service and unlimited data plans: Three new Disney iOS apps -- Watch Disney Channel, Watch Disney Channel XD, and Watch Disney Channel Junior -- are now available in the iTunes Store. Comcast Xfinity TV customers can use them to stream live and on-demand content. Non-authenticated users can also access a limited selection of on-demand video.
The apps work on Apple iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches, delivering original Disney programming such as "Good Luck Charlie," "Shake It Up," "Phineas and Ferb," "Tron: Uprising," "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," and "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" The apps are free to download.
Viewers can get the same experience online by going to three new websites: WATCHDisneyChannel.com, WATCHDisneyXD.com. and WATCHDisneyJunior.com.
Comcast announced that later in 2012 it will combine all of the Watch app content on its Xfinity.com/tv page, as well as on other platforms. It currently offers over 75,000 shows and movies on-demand through its site and apps.
Disney and Comcast recently launched WatchESPN, which also offers live and on-demand video to authenticated users.
"This launch is the latest in a series of TV Everywhere initiatives we're delivering that offer customers more choices and new ways to watch the best entertainment anytime, anywhere," says Matthew Strauss, senior vice president of digital and emerging platforms for Comcast Cable.
