Envivio Debuts Halo Experience Server for Personalized Delivery

Article Featured Image

Perhaps video-over-IP company Envivio calls its latest offering Halo because it sounds too good to be true. The Halo Experience Server, introduced today at the NAB show in Las Vegas, Nevada, lets operators offer personalized content and ads, deliver network DVR functionality, and do so without big investments or workflow changes.

Today’s operators offer multi-screen video delivery to customers, and are now looking to both enhance and monetize those platforms, says Envivio. With Halo, Experience, end users gain the ability to pause and rewind live video streams, record programs to cloud storage, and watch programs on whatever screen they choose. They can even record a video clip and instantly share it with friends, or create a custom a la carte TV channel.

Operators can grow revenues with Halo Experience by delivering targeted ads to viewers, no matter what device they’re using. Operators also gain granular analytics for tracking viewer behavior.

What Envivio is hoping really sells Halo Experience is that it blends into existing operator workflows and infrastructures without requiring big changes or capital investments. Operators don’t need to change CDNs; Halo Experience creates new services by using the CDN’s native caching abilities. Envivio is offering APIs that let it connect to third-party application servers and ad decisioning systems. Halo Experience format support includes Apple HLS, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, Adobe HDS, and MPEG-DASH.
