Envivio Offers HD Support for iPhone 4

The high-resolution "retina display" of the iPhone 4 demands great-looking video, and Envivio today announced one option for delivery. The company's 4Caster C42 encoding/transcoding platform now offers high-definition support for the iPhone 4. This upgrade to the 4Caster lets customers serve high-def live and on-demand TV content.

Companies already using 4Caster C42 can get the iPhone 4 support as an upgrade. Once completed, they'll be able to deliver video optimized for the iPhone 4's 3.5-inch 960 x 640 pixel display. Apple's high pixel density promises to make images exceptionally smooth. Video is served with Envivio's H.264 Extreme Main Profile Compression codec. iPhone 4 support is available as a firmware upgrade to Mobile TV and Internet TV customers with a Silver or Gold Envivio support plan.

The 4Caster's multi-profile output lets customers serve iPads, iPhones, PCs, smartphones, and other devices simultaneously. It can work with eight IP, four, analog, or four SDI channels. It also simultaneously encodes and protects content in multiple profiles. Adaptive streaming ensures that viewers will get uninterrupted video delivery, no matter how their network quality fluctuates.

"As the screens on mobile devices achieve higher levels of fidelity, it is incumbent upon services to provide consumers with video streams that make the most of that capability," says Julien Signès, president and CEO of Envivio. "The combination of the iPhone 4 and Envivio 4Caster delivers a true HD-caliber experience in the palm of your hand."
