Giraffic and Craze Digital Launch Online Movies Box
Attendees at the recent Streaming Media West conference in Los Angeles got a first look at the newly launched Online Movies Box, an on-demand movie site created by Giraffic and Craze Digital. Giraffic created the accelerated peer-to-peer (P2P) distribution system that drives the site.
Craze Digital supplied the movie library, which includes two Planet of the Apes movies, some classic names like Cary Grant and Bob Hope, several Jackie Chan titles, and quite a bit that's more obscure. Craze turned to Giraffic to provide smooth distribution at a price that makes the ad-supported movie site possible.
Giraffic's distribution lets movies start up quickly and play without buffering. Even if titles are only viewed by a handful of viewers, Giraffic can accelerate distribution and serve content from other users' systems, offloading much of the delivery from the CDN or origin services.
"We are delighted to work with Craze Digital on their new industry-leading VOD movie service," says Yoel Zanger, founder and CEO of Giraffic. "Giraffic's P2P Video Accelerator will enable Craze to differentiate itself not only by the content it offers, but also by the end-user experience and future scalability towards more content, more users, and high definition."
