Globix Begins Construction of Internet Data Center in Central London

Globix Corporation has begun construction on its new SuperPOP Internet Data Center at One Oliver's Yard, in the heart of London's financial district. The building used to be the Companies house, which was home to all of the legal corporate documents in the UK, but now it will be transformed into a server farm. The new center will greatly increase Globix's space and hosting capacity in Europe. The data center is expected to open for business in the first half of 2001. The new SuperPOP will provide dual connections to the area's power grid systems and back-up generator power, 24 x 7 x 365 on-site monitoring and technical staffing, advanced biometric security systems and temperature-control and fire-suppression systems. "Europe's hosting and co-location market is projected to be worth $5.4 billion within the next two years," said Marc H. Bell, chairman and CEO of Globix, citing figures from The Phillips Group consulting firm in London. "We've witnessed tremendous customer growth in our existing London facility and need additional capacity to keep up with the demand. With the new SuperPOP, Globix will be in a strong position to capitalize on this rapidly expanding market."
