Google Acquires TVE Specialist Anvato for an Undisclosed Amount
Google has purchased TV Everywhere platform provider Anvato for an undisclosed amount, both companies announced yesterday. The deal gives Google something it lacked—an end-to-end TVE/OTT platform—and signals that Google intends to be much more aggressive in the premium video business, grabbing a large share of the growing streaming TV market.
Anvato was founded in 2007 and is based in Mountain View, California. It took in $2.6 million in funding in 2008. In April 2016, Anvato announced that its Media Content Platform supports 360° video, and in September 2015 it announced that it would provide TVE services for Scripps Networks Interactive brands.
An Anvato representative contacted by StreamingMedia.com could not comment on today's news.
Google's blog post announcement was slight on details, only saying that Anvato will be part of the Google Cloud Platform and that Anvato already has significant media clients such as NBCUniversal, Fox Sports, Univision, and CBS Local Media.
"The Cloud Platform and Anvato teams will work together to deliver cloud solutions that help businesses in the media and entertainment industry scale their video infrastructure efforts and deliver high-quality, live video and on-demand content to consumers on any device," wrote Belwadi Srikanth, senior product manager for the Google Cloud Platform. Srikanth promised more details in the coming months.
"We are thrilled to bring together Anvato with the scale and power of Google Cloud Platform to provide the industry’s best offering for OTT and mobile video," Anvato CEO Alper Turgut wrote in a blog post.
This isn’t the day's only acquisition news, as the Kudeleski Group announced it has acquired digital content watermarking company NexGuard Labs BV.
