Gracenote Boosts Second-Screen Presence with Video APIs
Video and music metadata provider Gracenote has long supplied information for online music and movie apps and smart TVs, and has more recently moved into the second-screen experience by partnering with SyFy Sync and Zeebox. Today, the company is looking to expand its companion app presence by releasing a new API for developers at the TVOT Hackathon in San Francisco.
The new API releases feature TV program listings, cover art and other images, and automatic content recognition (ACR) functionality. The Entourage ACR API lets consumers listen to dialog and the soundtrack in a movie or TV show to sync second-screen apps, while the eyeQ interactive program guide includes local and national program listings in addition to cast and crew photos, cover art, and other photos and images.
Gracenote is offering a $2,000 prize at the TVOT Hackathon for the most innovative hack built by developers. Developers can access the Video APIs by signing up for the Gracenote Developer Program at https://developer.gracenote.com/.
