Haivision Releases Makito X4 4K With 8 Core Encoding Engine
Stepping up from the original Makito and Makito X, video streaming tech company Haivision released the Makito X4 video encoder today. This version includes an 8 core encoding engine, and can output 4K video or four HD streams at 60fps. Buyers will also find up to 84 HD inputs (or 21 4K inputs) and 168 encoding cores in a single 4RU frame.
The company is pitching this model to studios that need live broadcast contribution and want to step up their remote productions. With ultra-low latency, this Makito is right for remote live interviews, the company says. It outputs HEVC/H.265 and AVC/H.264 live video with 4:2:2 10-bit color. Thanks to the company's Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) technology, it can push low-latency streams over public internet connections. It also has low power requirements, using under 30 watts per encoder blade and under 8 watts for each HD stream.
"Haivision's new Makito X4 is extending our excellence in video encoding in so many ways," says Peter Maag, Haivision's chief marketing officer. "First, we serve the most rigorous markets—and the X4 brings forward the credibility of always-on, totally dependable performance that over 50,000 Makitos can testify to. It builds on the heritage of the Makito Series by adding quantum picture quality advancements, 4K support, 16 times the power of our previous generation encoder and an extensible programmable hardware platform featuring 8 HEVC/H.264 encoding engines. We feel we have another remarkable winner."
Look for the Makito X4 to go on sale in April.
