Huffington Post Will Launch 24-Hour Online Video Channel

The Huffington Post will launch a round-the-clock online video channel later this year, in either the third or fourth quarter. The new channel will be called HuffPost 24, and will feature a variety of live and recorded programming. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.

Content on HuffPost 24 will include original series, documentaries, national and international news reports, short-form video, and live video. It will feature licensed content, original video from AOL, and content created by partners such as YouTube stars. The channel won't offer 24-hour programming at launch, but will ramp up to round-the-clock service.

In an interview, Arianna Huffington said video—and especially mobile video—is a priority:

"It's part of our growth plan to be 50-50 video," Huffington said. "As we see the world moving to mobile and global video, these are pretty big priorities. Being able to produce video that can be consumed both by over-the-top and mobile is a huge priority for us." 

The general manager of the channel, Nathan Brown, is now hiring new members of the video team. The Huffington Post website will be redesigned to make online video more prominent.

The Huffington Post's first online video channel, HuffPost Live, debuted in August, 2012. It features live conversations with newsmakers and viewers about issues of the day.
