IDT Launching Broadband TV Network
Telecom and ISP company IDT (www.idt.com) said it will use its newly purchased tv.tv address to launch a broadband television channel called, appropriately enough, TV.TV.
The new TV.TV (www.tv.tv) site will feature online broadband entertainment programming by the end of the year. There will be live and on-demand content including TV shows, feature-length movies, music and sporting events, animations and documentaries.
"We're pioneering the broadband television and entertainment industry. The .tv address says it all, and is the perfect home for our new entertaining network," said Howard Jonas, chairman and CEO of IDT Corporation. "It's critical to TV.TV's branding to have a recognizable and meaningful Web address."
dotTV (www.tv), backed by incubator idealab!, is the sole registrar of the .tv domain. It has been selling domains names in a partnership with the country of Tuvalu, which owns ".tv". According to dotTV, many companies are making a land grab to get the best .tv domains, including Sega, Columbia TriStar, PAX TV, British Telecom and others.
