Kaltura Acquires Tvinci, Pay TV OTT Services Company
Online video platform Kaltura announced that it has acquired Tvinci for an undisclosed amount. Tvinci offers OTT (over-the-top) video delivery services for pay TV providers.
Kaltura will use Tvinci's technology in its OTT MediaGo solution, and has already begun the integration. Once finished, the platform will let operators and broadcasters generate revenue from their video content on any device. MediaGo will let them deliver live and on-demand streams, insert ads, offer video-on-demand (SVOD) services, and manage social networking.
Besides offering benefits for broadcasters, Kaltura notes that Tvinci's technology will also help its many enterprise and education clients. Kaltura will be able to offer them tools for creating video bundles and promotions, as well as improved social networking services.
“The acquisition of Tvinci completes our transition from focusing largely on VOD assets and ad-based monetization, to providing an equal emphasis on live/linear programming and an authenticated pay OTT TV experience," says Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura's co-founder, chairman and CEO. "We are also excited to broaden our offerings for the service provider markets, and to further boost our social, collaboration, and personalization tools."
Kaltura took in $47 million in additional venture funding in February of this year. The company notes that Pricewaterhouse Cooper estimated that the OTT market will reach $17.4 billion by 2017.
